Annette Murphy is a writer, actress and filmmaker. She grew up in Southern California then ventured to North Carolina where she graduated with degrees in Philosophy and Women’s Studies from Duke University. Even now, into her 30’s, she still maintains a crazy love for college basketball and probably will until the day she dies.
For a few years Annette traveled the world taking photographs. When she returned, she began her career as an actress in such Indie films as ‘Star Maps’ ‘Chuck & Buck’ ‘Temptation’ ‘The Race’ as well as appearing on television. She also began working with prominent LA Playwrights at The Mark Taper Forum, Getty Center and Boston Court Theater.
Having learned about filmmaking from her experience as an actress, Annette began writing screenplays. Her first feature script ‘Mercy’ won Step Up Women’s Network’s Screenplay Competition sponsored by Zide/Perry and Fortis Films and is in pre-production. Her second screenplay ‘Liberty’ is a coming-of-age drama-dy about a young girl obsessed with pro wrestling. Annette’s initial short scripts, ‘Club Familia de Michigan’ and ‘Crack.Open.Jude’ secured her spots as finalists in Fade-In Online Script Competition and excerpts from her short films ‘Rita’ and ‘Far From Home’ can be seen on her website.
Annette is also producing the film ‘Perfection’ for writer/director Christina Beck. The script was recently nominated for IFP Market Best Screenplay Award and is currently in production. Annette lives in Southern California with her husband and family. Follow me on Twitter.
